Beginners YOga COurse

The 5 week Beginner's course is extremely valuable and highly recommended for the absolute beginner to the experienced yogi who wants to revisit basics or those who just want to relax and unwind.

Each class holds a particular focus over a rolling five-week program. Throughout the duration of the course, you will be introduced to all the main principles and techniques you’ll need to ensure a safe, healthy and holistic yoga practice.

In this five-week course, you will learn:

  • Core strength techniques to stabilise and mobilise your body through various type of yoga asanas (standing poses, balancing poses, back bends, seated poses, forward bends and twists)
  •  Functional movement principles with foundational yoga postures and breath work to create whole body stability, mobility, mental calmness and clarity.
  • Specific yoga poses and breathing techniques that promote relaxation and calmness. A regular yoga practice can assist with reducing stress, anxiety and tension.

Discover ways to modify your practice to suit your individual requirements, experience the joy of movement, whilst cultivating a strong foundation aimed at setting you up for greater ease in mind and body.

This course is designed to be repeated as many times as you like. Upon completion of this course you are welcome to continue as a drop in or pass holder.

This course with Han Wee Tan is for anyone wishing to bring a greater sense of balance and meaning to their lives as well as those who are dealing with stress of any kind. 

In recent years research in neuroscience has made compelling discoveries about the brain’s capacity to grow and change, including evidence that meditation helps to create new pathways in the brain that increase our ability to be more positive and creative. 

Join us for a 5 week training course to help you introduce more mindfulness into your life through a blend of Yoga philosophy and practices to reduce stress and anxiety, face challenges efficiently, perform at your optimal levels and to be inspired.

YOGA RX is a 5 week course combining theory and practical in a therapeutic approach to yoga and movement, which recognises that we are all unique in the way our bodies move and feel. This course has been designed by Hollie Swanton (12 years experience as an Occupational Therapist, Yoga Teacher and Bodyworker) where she weaves her variety of trainings, rehabilitation and knowledge of body work and yoga combined with latest clinical rehabilitation techniques to assist your to address the physical, retrain your brain and nervous system and develop awareness to support healthy movement & increase overall wellness.  In this course you will:

  • Get confident in moving YOUR body, finding alignment and integrity to aid you body to access the benefits of movement on and off the mat.
  • Experience improved mobility & stability through your spine and all major joints.
  • Build overall strength including core strength.
  • Take home skills to improve your function in day-to- day life.
  • Learn mindful movement, how to use your brain to retrain your body and breathing techniques for a greater sense of awareness, calm, happiness and positivity.
  • NEW IN 2018! Be provided with a YogaRX workbook, and access to the secret group where we share weekly tips, tricks and videos to help you practice at home between sessions and beyond.

What level is the course at?

Classes are at a remedial level aimed at creating time and space for you to complete therapeutic yoga poses to slow down, connect your awareness within specific areas of your body to then integrate, mobilise and stabilise for overall functional movement and wellness. You are welcome to join if you are recovering from injury, are aiming to find increased body balance or find beginners classes are a little tricky to keep up with. 

What do I need to bring?

Please bring along a mat, if you have one, a towel, a pen and a water bottle. Cairns Beaches Yogi's will also receive a free gift (yoga massage balls! to collect at the first class)

You will be provided with a Workbook to keep and during each session, we focus on different aspects, intertwining learning from the education session to integrate learning during the practical session, enhancing your understanding of and within your body, to develop integrity and awareness in your own body. Course registration also will grant you access to the YogaRX online page, where you can log in for further tips, videos and information to help you along your journey.

Can i just come along for one class to see?

This is a course, and it designed that you will see benefit from coming over the course of the 5 weeks. Participants who are willing to commit to 5 weeks are encouraged to register. Should you not be able to attend one week, please contact Hollie directly on 0438 799 754. 

How many times can I complete the course?

Participants who have completed the full 5 week course once, are welcome to continue in subsequent course and in fact we have many who continue on after. The courses are unique and the information is updated and modified each time, so that you will learn new and different things in each course.

Do I need a doctors clearance?

Yes, if you have a number of medical conditions, it is suggested that you review with your Health Professional Prior to commencing this program. Hollie is an Occupational Therapist and this course can be apart of your Health Care plan, and rebates for Private Health insurance are available, please contact Hollie directly on 0438 799 754. 

I'm on a rehab program, covered by DVA or Workcover, can I still come?
